As you might expect in Mumbai's Catholic hub, there were a reasonable number of decorations in our area, Bandra, over Christmas and New Year.
The best, however, arrived when I would usually expect lights to be coming down. Last week, our street only was transformed into a tunnel of lights. The photograph below doesn't do it justice, but there are white, yellow and green lights strung densely along the full length of our street (a few hundred metres), creating an awesome tunnel effect.
The closest thing I've seen to this before is in Las Vegas, but these lights are much more tasteful. Our driver has asked around and found that they have been assembled by a local crore-pati (has at least one crore, equating to £100k); A K Motiwala, who owns a jewelry shop at the end of the street. Why he's done this, we do not know, it's yet another of the rather unexpected (but very nice) things that can happen in Mumbai.
